How many different types of macaws are there?

Their common names are :- Blue & Gold, Blue Headed, Blue Throated, Buffons, Chestnut Fronted (also called Severe), Cuban, Glaucous, Greenwing, Hahn's, Hyancinth, Illegars, Lears, Military, Noble, Red Bellied, Red Fronted, Scarlet, Spix's, and Yellow Collared. This list does not include hybrids which will only have been bred in captivity, because Macaws don't hybridise in the wild.
It is difficult to say exactly how many different macaws there are. For instance, the Red-shouldered macaw Ara nobilis is a seperate species in the Ara genus. It does however have two sub-species; A.n.cumanensis and A.n.longipennis, which are slightly different from each other.
If you want to count them as different 'types', there could be as many as 45.
