My grandson, who is 5, developed over the weekend raised single spots........

all over his head and one on his forehead. They started as raised spots and are now itching him and some appear to have a little pin prick yellow in the middle. We think that is due to him scratching them. The glands in the back of his neck are up and swollen. We just dont know what they are.? He hasnt got nits. Any idea.?

no expert but could be chicken pox, if they itch then it's a distinct possibility
would be a good idea to have it looked at by a doctor.

Sorry should have said he has had chicken pox. And they dont look like a pox spot , no watery center.

Well this is all we can come up with but why just his head and no where else.? And his glands are really swollen. He woke up with them on saturday morning.

Havent taken him to doctors as it seems a waste of his time. Took him to chemist but the pharmacist said she didnt know what it was either.

then take him to the doctor, what about mumps? if not doctors try NHS direct.

where is sqad when you need him

He might have an allergy to something. Has he eaten anything different in the last couple of days? I would have said chicken pox but the spots usually turn to a blistery centre before they burst and make the scabs.

Well chicken pox does come to mind, but the swollen glands and yellow spots tend to go against the diagnosis.

He needs to get a doctor to see him BUT..my guess is non bullous impetigo which is a bacterial (staphylococcus I think) infection often seen in children.

It is no big deal and responds quickly to antibacterial cream.

I will be interested to know of the diagnosis.
