What do you mean by printing badly? Was it printing OK with original Canon cartridges? Have you run all the maintenance procedures such as head cleaning/aligning? It could well be the ink, I do quite a lot of printing and would only use quality ink for photos especially if you want to still be able to look at them in years to come. You do tend to get what you pay for.

thanks for your answer rattyratgirl, yes done all the usual maintenance stuff.
it has always given good results but i now have windows seven and am using cheap ink so just wondwered if that could be the problem.
I use Windows 7 and it hasn't had any adverse effects on my printing I think it's far more likely to be the ink
Have you switched to cheap paper as well?

Using cheaper inks usually only results in a very small fall off (if any) in image quality. Using cheaper paper often results in appalling quality (or, more accurately, a total lack of any quality).

Put some decent paper in (e.g. Kodak Ultima), check that you're using the printer settings which are specifically designed for that type of paper, and try again.
