what is the view on someone who does a 2nd job for cash. lets paint the scenario;

johnny works 40 hours a week in a warehouse, has a family, wife works both pay income tax. he also has a 2nd job at the weekend he gets cash for but doesnt declare to the tax man. lets also say they claim child benefit which isnt alot a week as they're both working and kids are at school. he does the 2nd job simply to generate a bit more cash as its a struggle.

what he's doing is illegal - but is it immoral?

I agree with the others- but I don't understand why you mentioned that he claims child benefit, since they are entitled to that

He is taking a job off somebody who will work legally and pay his or her taxes.
He probably has no form of insurance for himself or any other person he injures or property he damages.
If he has an accident doing this second job, either his legal employer will pay his sack pay, or the tax payer will. That is wrong.

interesting point hc. i work with someone who has a real problem with people that take on overtime shifts here. he maintains they're more likely to work the overtime then go sick for their normal shifts due to tiredness etc. For some, o/t is a neccessity though.

Illegal yes, but immoral? Oh pffft, sometimes needs must. Good on him for actually working to feed his family.
