Birthday help......
16 Answers
I know that this is possibly the most ridiculous question to ask, and nobody should know better than I do, but I'm struggling to come up with a birthday present for my 42 year old partner and I look upon you folk for assistance in coming up with a present that he might actually like!!
His birthday is on Saturday (19th) and he has everything he needs and anything he really wants is just way beyond my means (an Aston Martin is just a wee bit pricey for my budget!).
Just a few things about him that might help.....he's a quizmaster and both hosts and competes in quizzes (and has such a 'trivial' mind that he usually wins even when competing on his own - consequently, he's not always very popular at the pub!).
He loves anything to do with Apple computers and already has an iPhone and iPod (I was wondering about accessories....?)
He hates his birthday for the reason that overnight, he's labelled a year older than he was the day before, and because the focus is on him and he receives presents and can't give any back!
He hates clothes and doesn't wear aftershave.
He is a goth at heart and likes skulls and macabre oddities (within reason).
He's into music but is difficult to buy for because his taste is pretty obscure and consequently he already has anything he might like.
He loves his grub, but he's already managed to get through a kilo bag of jelly belly beans since Christmas and I daren't get him any more for fear of being blamed for his expanding wasteband!
I'm honestly and truly flummoxed and can't tell you how much I would appreciate any ideas.
Thank you in advance!

Ohhh Louisa, thank you, you are trying so hard! I had wondered about one of those gift experiences but I have forgotten to mention that he can't drive (could he get any more awkward?!). I'd love to pay for him to zoom around a track in and Aston Martin but he couldn't do it.
Maybe I should just get him driving lessons!

Dear all, thank you very much for trying to help.
Zacsmaster, I have applied to go and see QI and Top Gear (as he also loves cars despite not being able to drive!) being filmed but they don't cost a thing but there is also no way of knowing when we will get the tickets for either of those shows.
country_boy, I used to love IWOOT, until this last Christmas when they royally screwed up my order and I've never even had so much as an apology or reply to my emails (and phoning doesn't work either!).
ginger85, I think your idea of ebay is possibly my only hope - though I've left it really late now haven't I!
Once again, thank you all for your suggestions. I do appreciate it.
Kate

How about a year's subscription to the gym? He won't put on any more weight with that, hopefully the opposite, and he can't get out of it then, as he will hurt your feelings, Kate! Sorry, but that was the only thing I could think of, not having the pleasure of knowing you both personally. I hope he would not take this the wrong way, but that is what I would give.
JohnnyBoy I'm afraid that your suggestion, though well intended has had me in stitches! Only this morning, as we were rushing to get ready for work, his words to me were 'I'm not designed for physical exertion.....that's what good time management is for'!
I do thank you though for taking the time to read my question (cry for help!) and for bothering to post a suggestion.
