It's entirely a matter of personal choice. I love smoked bacon, smoked cheeses, smoked (cooked) turkey breast, smoked haddock, smoked salmon, smoked trout, etc, etc. So you can probably guess which one I'd choose! (Putting my personal preferences aside though, I'd still say that smoked gammon, with pineapple, would offer a better contrast in flavours than using unsmoked gammon).
If you'd like to make it a little 'posher' (but still keeping things fairly simple), try this:

Both are tasty, although i would advise you buy best quality tour budget will allow. Before placing the gammon under the grill make cuts about every couple of inches around the edge going in towards the centre (about an inch long) this helps stop the usual dish shaped gammon you see due to it shrinking. Also cook on a low heat as far from heating element as your grill allows.
I also prefer to warm the pineapple rings before serving or they cool the meat very quickly.

what..the? - What is that animal on your avatar? It looks like a pigeon my chief hen has just given a bloodied beak. Oh - now I see it's meant to be a rabbit! Same applies, you don't know Clementine! :-).
I'm a bit off buying gammon, cos I'm not convinced of the welfare standards of other countries rearing their piggies. Shame, as OH & I love a good gammon steak or joint. But I won't buy it until I'm convinced that the pig has led a happy life, snortling about, doing piggy things.

I believe a lot of 'smoked' food is chemically 'smoked' these days instead of doing the real thing. Despite knowing that smoke is airborn dirt, I find smoked food tastes great, which is a confusing thing to experience. Why would anyone think dirty food was good, but it seems it is. Chemicals though: surely that's not right.
Oh and I never prefer to mix my dessert with my main course. Leave the pineapple for putting with the custard later. Shove a fried egg or two on the gammon if desired.
