Cost of dying unaffordable
Today it was announced that the average cost of a funeral is circa £7000. As these costs have been rising astronomically how will the average family be able to cope with the death of their loved ones?

If you can not afford the costs of a funeral I think that there are some grants you can get from the government. Will try and find out from my father what this was and then get back to you all. £7K seems an awful lot.
Can anyone here do the neighbourly thing and let us know where we can find a funeral for a knockdown price?

I am going to donate my body to science. That way we can avoid the costs of a funeral. Would anyone care to join me on this one? Can anyone here enlighten us as to the grants available for those who do not have a penny in the world?
I know that they exist but do not know enough about them to tell us all. Some help would be appreciated here.

Donating your body to medical science is not as straightforward as you may think.
Many bodies are rejected as unsuitable and very often the family is expected to 'dispose' of the remains once the body is finished with.
And sadly you cannot donate your organs and leave your body to medical science.
What Happens if a Medical School Does Not Accept My Body?
If your body is not accepted by a medical school your family will become responsible for your remains.

A neighbour died a few years back. When we asked his widow when the funeral was she said, "there isn't going to be one, he was collected by the undertaker and taken to the crematorium". I don't suppose that cost too much.
My sister died last December. She had a woodland burial. It cost £2,700 including about £600 for the wake afterwards.
