The padlock thing is to show that you are on a secure site - if there's no padlock, the site security might be suspect.
Do you mean Facebook and do you mean a padlock in the address bar?

If so, there shouldn't be a padlock in the address bar on Facebook.

Sorry if I am thinking of something different to what you mean.

Hi Boxtops - it was there and then I was looking at something and it said my security was medium. I clicked it to try and increase it, changed nothing and the padlock disappeared.

Hi both, I am using an iPad and at the top of my screen is the time, then it says Facebook (without a padlock) then the actual Internet page.
Oh, then I can't really help. I'm not sure how these things work in iMacs. But as standard facebook wouldn't have a padlock, just like Answerbank doesn't as they are not 'secure' sites.

Hi Bednobs, it's just says www.Facebook.com - as it is re-loading the padlock is there and just as it fully -loads the padlock disappears (though not sure what the padlock is all about).

For all of those on FB, this is a copy and paste from one of my friends.

"FB has changed without any notification. Look at your URL (top box on your screen.) If you see "http" or just "www" instead of "https" you DO NOT have a secure session & can be hacked. Go to Account Settings - Security - click Edit. Check box (secure browsing), click Save. FB has automatically set it on the non-secure setting. Do everyone a huge favor, copy & re-post."
