I.ve come up with an idea to help get the young people into work..Or just reduce the number of unemployed..Instead of raising the retirement age why not let everyone retire at 60..Women have been able to do this for years but why not let the men do it to.. I've worked all my life and would like to draw a pension at 60 and this would create a vacancy for my job which intern would help get someone off the dole.. my house is paid for i've got money in the bank but I don't want to just give up my job and live off my savings for 5 yrs.. but if i could claim a pension i would and i expect i wouldn't be alone..
The government would save money in the long run because i'd only be claiming for myself whereas someone with family may be taken off the dole ..

Can I be in the Firing squad please, I have loads of time, I could be like Annie Git Yer Gun..
I also have an idea how to get them into work, they could apply for jobs! Where I work, we have to employ foreign workers to fill vacancies as the English don't apply for the jobs on offer.
When we give these jobs to the few English that do apply, they will often only stay long enough to satisfy the job centres criteria and gone again, some of them don't even survive a full shift.

The foreign workers we employ are dedicated, reliable and enthusiastic. I don't actually agree with employing foreign workers in my line of work, Dementia sufferers have enough difficulties without struggling to understand foreign accents, it is often a problem for them.
I've worked out that I won't be able to retire until I'm 67 based on the dir.gov website
:o(
I have no intention of retiring as long as I can do my job effectively and safely.
theres always plenty of work for people to avoid....
Send them all to this place called Jeopardy, i'm not sure what part of the county it is but i'm always seeing signs stating that's there are always hundreds of jobs there!!
I'm all for a return to some form of National Service. It wouldn't necessarily have to be in the armed services, but could include stuff like nursing or parks maintenance - something that would instil a work ethic and some sense of being part of society.
I agree. I thought I was the only one thinking that way. The Government however, doesn't seem to want to fix anything. After all, if they fixed all the problems, what would happen to their jobs and fat pensions?
I agree with Sammmo. By vacating the jobs at age 60, and moving people up the ladder, the entry positions will be available for the young people that are coming out of school and Uni and going straight on the dole.
The Pension money will come from the contributions paid by all those peolple that now have jobs and are not claiming benefits.
