Hi ABer's The Irish equivalent of Freeview is Saorview, which gives access to the 4 Irish channels. If a Saorview TV was connected to a Sky Dish in UK would it pick up the Irish channels. At present you can take a Sky viewing card and watch RTE in UK,but just thought this would be an option not to give money to Murdoch and is gang.

Since Saorview is the equivalent of Freeview (and not Freesat) it's a terrestrial system. That means that it requires a conventional TV aerial (not a dish) to be pointed at a nearby land-based transmitter (not a satellite). The signals used by terrestrial TV services are on completely different frequencies to those used by satellite TV; the receiving equipment for one system is not compatible with the other.
Any satellite receiver attached to a dish pointing to '28 degrees east' (which is the collective location for a group of satellites) can receive all of these stations, free of charge:

That's because none of those broadcasters encrypt their signals. However you'll see that RTÉ isn't in the list; that's because the transmissions are encrypted and can only be decoded by a suitable box with a valid viewing card (requiring a subscription) inserted.
