Tropical fish identification
9 Answers
Is there a website where I can identify Caribbean fish (specifically Barbados)?
Google seems to lead to books or websites where you look up the name first. I just want to look at pictures to identify fish I`ve seen but I can`t find a simple site.

Or you could see if you can find the fish that you want here - http://www.google.co....f&aqi=g4g-m2&aql=&oq=
Thanks for your replies. I`ll keep looking. I`m particularly interested in an ugly looking fish I saw resting on rocks. It was about 1 foot long, with bulbous bulges out of the side of it`s neck, fan like fins and a forked tail.
Thanks Divegirl. I know the slates you mean. I remember the trigger fish and being told they can attack your fins.

Was it one of these?

You say it was resting...was it still alive on the rocks? That definitely narrows the field down

Thanks for that but no, it wasn`t a monkfish. It was in Barbados so it was a warm water fish. It was asleep I think. I`m not sure how fish sleep but it was motionless and pressed up against the rocks but it`s eyes were open. It didn`t react to me and I was about 2 feet from it. It might have been some sort of cat or dog fish but I don`t know that much about them. The rocks were covered with fine plant growth and the fish was covered with it too. It was so well disguised you would never know it was there.
Sounds like some sort of stone fish to me...........
