Does it tend to just be the Royals who would get a police escort on a public road?

I was picked up once by a police escort practicing, as I pulled on to the main road I was suddenly surrounded by four motorcycle cops, they kept over taking me blocking various junctions and roundabouts allowing me to just sail down the road completely unhindered by any other traffic for about five miles before I turned off. Brilliant I thought when I'd worked out what was going on as my first reaction was absolute horror because I just been to buy some pot.
