So how do you deal with spiders?

Working at my desk the other night, out of the corner of my eye I caught something moving - a fairly big spider running around my envelope holder (a largish wooden box with four slots to hold the contents vertically). There he was running up and down the envelopes, appearing and then disappearing into the dark depths of the box. Now, where spiders are concerned, rationality fails me completely, and if my husband is out when I spot one, as he was on this occasion, the only way I can deal with it is to suck it up the vacuum cleaner (yes, I know - wicked!). However, this fellow was a speedy little blighter and there was no way I could touch those envelopes to see where he'd gone.
I sit here now ...... knowing he's still around ....... somewhere. Urrrgh!

One night when I was living in one room above my office, I came home after working late to see a massive, black hairy spider across the room from my bed. I was too tired to cope with it, so I drew a line across the floor with my finger and said "You stay on your side. I'll stay on mine and we won't have a problem." I went to sleep. Next morning, I woke up to see spider just across my imaginary line. It was dead. I've never had a problem with spiders since.
