When you are standing patiently in a queue and someone else joins it behind you, why do some people feel need to stand so close to you they are actually making contact. It's not going to make them get served any quicker.
I remember one bus conductor who used to stand at the foot of the stairs looking up women's skirts as the went to the upper deck.... I am sure he wasn't the only one he stuck in my mind because he looked like benny hill
I can`t stand people close behind me either. I usually make a point of stepping back a little so they get jabbed with my handbag. One of my Delhi based colleagues said that she carries a pin with her on public transport and if someone (usually male) stands too close, she sticks it in them
WELL........ a few years ago, a mate of mine was an umpire/linesman at Wimbledon and he and his mate , who was a vicar, was "done" for rubbing themselves up to spectators in the crowd (not whilst umpiring though LOL)
I can't stand it either however I do smell so the problem doesn't arise too often. When it does though I simply start to look for something in my pockets, with my exaggerated elbows going here there and everywhere anyone stood that close quickly steps back away.
I could really take offence at fliptheswitch. I am 84 and I shower every day, sometimes twice. I use a deodorant and my current perfume is Vera Wang 'Look' . I cannot smell myself, obviously - you get used to your own smell but I do my best, epecially to avoid such an offensive remark.
I'm so sorry, Starbuckone. I really didn't mean to cause offence to anyone. In hindsight, I should have worded my comments in a better way.
What I should have said was "*Some* older people smell.. definitely not all".
Obviously you get stinkers of all ages, but I was just going from my personal experience, mainly in my local shop. I really am sorry that I was so flippant. I didn't mean to generalise. I'm sure you smell lovely in your Vera Wang :)
