Just pulled up outside my house and the cat immediately charged over the road and layed on the front step as usual. As I was getting out of the car, this woman drove past saw him and stopped the car to try and call him over! I was busy getting my baby out so didnt get chance to say anything before she drove off. Do you think she thinks she's his owner lol?!

There's a great children's book about a cat that has more than one owner; Six Dinner Sid; it's all brilliant for him till he gets poorly and is taken to the vets six times!

Honestly, I would be seriously worried if somebody stopped their car and was calling my cat over. Did you know her?

I don't think my cat has any other owners. He does pop into next doors because his mate lives there.

'My' cat officially lives two doors down the road but she still relies on me for fuss and for food (usually demanding both at around 4am!)

(It's a good arrangement, from my point of view, because I get her company and the other household gets the vet's bills!)

Good arrangement there, Chris. The food is much cheaper than the vet's bills. It is a known fact that cats are clever enough to go to more than one person's home for food and that is why they can get fat!

By the way they are all "obligate carnivores" which means they need meat to survive.

When I lived in Suffolk, I am sure ASBO had another "slave" because he used to disappear for days (weeks on a couple of occasions). Yet since I brought him here, he's always around.

Before I moved, my cat used to spend time with a neighbour while I was at work - the neighbour knew she was mine, so there was no ownership dispute (i.e., being a cat, I belong to her). I now wish she would find a nice co-owner who would pay the vets' bills as she's cost me a fortune this year! Seriously, though, I'd be a bit peeved if someone else seriously thought she was their cat.

Have you had your cat "chipped"? It can save a lot of hassle and heartbreak if you can actually prove that you are the cats main slave and not a secondary servant

My late cat Heathcliffe was a proper wanderer (probably how he ended up in a rescue home where I got him from). I had my mobile number on a disc on his collar and I used to get all kinds of calls and texts from his "friends". He always came home to me though.

He was hit by a car and didn't make it (seemingly on the way to the local beer garden he apparently went to a lot) and one of his "friends" found him and called me and even before I got there (I don't think the taxi driver will forget that trip in a hurry!) some more of his "friends" called to say they had taken him back to theirs so I didn't have to see him on the road. I was so grateful for that and he was all wrapped up in a sheet on the bed when I got there to a hug and cup of tea and more than a few tears. I was always his main slave but I was always so grateful he had so many others friends about, especially then.

I have two rescues madames now and Spare Cat. I don't think my two wander much as, especially one of them is very nervy of other people than me. Spare Cat just comes and goes, no idea who he belongs to even two years on, noone seems to know and he doesn't seem like stray. I have friends who are a vet and vets nurses and we took him up to their work once to get scanned (had visions of someone running out accusing me of stealing their cat!) to see if he was chipped but no.

I don't mind him coming in but it'd good to know who he belongs to, just in case.

I had a cat that the neighbours decided to adopt. She was old and ill and on meds so they decided that she was not cared for properly. The trouble was, they kept on feeding her so when she came home she didn't eat so she wasn't getting the tablets from her food, so she just got more poorly! I explained this to the neighbours but they still did it. In the end I took all her stuff round together with the tablets, told them which vet had her records and then left. The next day they brought the cat and all her belonging back and said they were going to shut her out in future, which they did. Seems the thought of all the ongoing vets bills concentrated their minds somewhat!

Next doors cat often pops in to say hello to us. He doesn't get fed though, just a little fussing and then he wanders out again.

Buy a collar that says 'Please do not feed', this will alert the other woman in your cats life that he has an owner. My daughter now has one on her cat, because he was coming home , sicking up noodles, prawns and goodness knows what else on the carpet. Sees to working so far. a little worried about collars on cats though. This one seems to made in a way that it would easily snap off if the cat got caught up. Fingers crossed

I didnt know the woman but presumably she lives at the top of the street which ends up a cul de sac so not very big, will definitely ask her when I see her again. My cat is chipped and he has a collar on with the magnetic thing on it to operate his cat flap. He is obviously healthy looking too so doesnt come across like a stray so its very odd I think for someone to presume he has no owner. Maybe she was just a psychotic extreme cat lover lol.

Cats often have more than one house where they go for food.
Hopefully this was a case of mistake identity on the womans behalf lol.
If I was you however I would try to find out who this woman is, let her know your cat has a home and maybe request she doesn't feed him.
