I'm not sure, but I think not.....
They would certainly lose the government widow's pension.........
Why do I not get a Widow's Pension?
was your husband of pensionable age chrissa? Are you?
It depends on what sort of pension and the rules of the scheme - some private pensions do allow the pension to continue
I became 60 in October 2010 and my husband was 60 in July 2010. He was ill and in hospital when he should have become eligible, ie 60 and six months. He died in February.
Chrissa, I too was 60 last October, and qualified for my state pension last June, I got a letter asking me to ring them and make a claim!......think you have moved home recently and so the letter may have gone astray!.........would ring the DWP and ask!.......
That's the State pension, then, welsh.... Chrissa's asking about widow's pension. Chrissa, this seems to suggest that you can't get widow's pension as well as the state pension http://www.hmrc.gov.u...eimanual/eim74607.htm
Sorry boxtops, yes that is the state pension, but just wondered if Chrissa is in receipt of this!...........
The sliding scale for eligibility has kicked in now, hasn't it - as you say, 60 in Oct you can only claim in June.... I've deferred mine while I'm still working, the pension increases by 10.4% p.a. for every year you can delay taking it. Worth considering for some!
boxtops yes, quite so, but I was retired due to ill health, so not a choice for me sadly!.......
Thanks welshb. Yes I'm getting my pension, so no widow's pension.
