what manufacturers do a car with cvt and how closely are they related to the original DAFs ?
I think that the DAF was vacuum operated. Are modern ones still like that or have electronics taken over?

The Rover CVT stood for Constantly Variable Transmission, not 'Velocity' as you mentioned. DAF had the Variomatic so I think you've confused Constant Velocity Transmission with Constant Velocity Joint.
I was in hysterics the first time I drove a CVT Metro. The engine revs were disproportionate to the gear, so you could put your foot down and all you'd get is a loud engine rev sound whilst the CVT box tried to catch up with it. You could play songs on it! :)
Yeah, I'm not too bad v64paul, thanks! How's you?
