Your local, has it closed down yet?

Pubs are closing at a rate of 9 per day, is this because we have greedy people demanding a fortune for a lease? and if the pub is seen to be doing well, they put the lease up?
Isn't this a bit silly, no pub, no rents for them !

The out of town student hub is just down the road full of cheap student bars and takeaways and the area around me is very multicultural and not much call for a local there. Not far from the city centre though with bars all over.
Some seem to change all the time and I've noticed a load of bars in one particular area (cheap, cheesy, chavvy meatmarkets) of town have all closed down recently.

We have a 'family pub' near us, on wednesday when we went past, it was busy...it was tea-time ish.. people sat out, enjoying the sun and a drink.. bowl of chips etc.. went past the same pub about 4 ish tonight.. its all been boarded up!! We didn't use it much.... but its soooo expensive to eat out these says... Shame... Mrs Crisper x
One out of 3 near local shops (on main road) has closed, but my son says 2nd is drug den-always getting raided-new people last year-he doen't live round here now, but said reputation would stick to it, and the other is 'regulars only' he wouldn't go in there ever-I went in it for 40th Birthday drink, and didn't notice anything, but girls I went with said its just because its local-1st drink of night out. Big ones furthur afield seem to be chinese or inian takeaway places
The village pub hasn't and won't close I don't imagine as it's one of those always busy gourmet pub food type places, but I don't drink there. I drink in a nearby pub which is literally a pub in the middle of a field, which is great but there are pubs shutting left right and centre in the nearby town, all very sad and sorry:(
