I heard a few seconds of some Ska on the radio and wanted to find out more. I've looked on the web for info but just got totally confused with all the history, differing types etc. I think I want something from the 70's/80's - has anyone got an idea what group/CD would be a good starting point ?

..try outsome of these bands...the specials , selecter, (early) madness, bad manners...

as for albums try something like "the no.1 ska album" ..or "complete ska"...you should check out some of the early stuff too

You can't go wrong starting with the best...the Skatellites.
70's/80's 2-tone stuff was good, but not as good as the best.
There was a CD from about 2-3 years ago called One Step Beyond! The Best of Ska, which had the old 60s classics on one disc and the 70s-80s British bands on the other. Definitely a good starting point.
