Then I see the below that just makes me want to bang my head on a desk really hard.

A friend posted on facebook "Amanda Knox has been freed".

This then led to the comments below.

Friend 1: whos amanda knox?

Friend 2: is that the nasty pedaphile from that nursery?

1: Sugar really, she should have been strung up,

2: actually i don't think thats her. i have just googled it and she murdeered someone. you can see i have not watched news for some time lol...... living in my bubble

1:no P**....Amanda Knox is accused of murdering her friend in America a while back. She's still going through appeal again!!!

2:ahhhh. just googled. i don't know it. back to my bubble lol

The inane chat then continues.

I have no question. I just wanted to share my despair with adults. I am desperate to shout at them READ AN EFFING PAPER ONCE IN A WHILE!

Am I missing something, nope, I don't think so. I do feel sorry that this poor girl has been put through so much. I also feel sorry for the young girl who is now dead.

Yes, of course. To ask questions about things they don't understand. That's absolutely fine. That's making an effort to learn about something.

That's not having half a clue about something but sharing it anyway. Well, on here it is sometimes.

I agree with Trimeresurus. Does knowing what's in the news make you happier? When was the last time you went on a protest march, or wrote to your MP, or acted on aything you saw/heard in the news? If you're not proactive then why be nosey, and watch other people's misery on the news.
This isn't particularly aimed at the OP. It's just a general question.

You're right Notafish - but if you don't know what is in the news then how can you be proactive about anything?
I have never been on a march or written to my MP, so I'm not missing anything. And personally I'm happier not watching the news or reading it. Bear in mind too that a lot of what we're told is at best, only half true.
But you're right about it being odd that someone wrote their opinions on a news story they didn't understand
reading the thread I am not aware of trim casting an opinion. If he wants to reside in blissful ignorance more power to him.
tommy h, were you talking to me? It's very confusing to know who is talking to who sometimes. When I mentioned the word "opinion" I was talking about the opinion of the person who the OP is complaining about. If you're not talking to me; then ignore this msg.
On the topic of despairing with people on facebook... I guy I used to work with just asked "Somebody wanna learn me to play guitar?"... JEEZ :|
