we have invited some friends over for a weekend/early doors friday night that we always used to have when we lived by them. How do i ask how long they will be staying without sounding like we want to get rid of them? we would like them to stay for dinner/the night on saturday aswell as fri but have something already booked elsewhere for the sunday. our friends have replied back to our proposal, get the bar stools booked for early doors!

In conversation just say .. it will be a busy weekend for me as we've also been invited out for Sunday ... but really looking forward to seeing you both on blah blah ..
just tell them you have a prior engagement on sunday (at about xpm) but would love them to stay friday and saturday night and it'll be good to catch up.

i have found that dancing around sensitivities leads to confusion and more offense than just telling it how it is. especially if they are decent enough friends who realise you may have a life outside of the 4some.

its not the sunday we are worried about just how we ask 'will you be staying sat aswell?' without sounding like we dont them when we do.
do you want them to stay on saturday ?
Question Author
yes saturday too!
Just reply - can't wait to see you Friday, have you any plans for Saturday as we'd love you to stay for dinner/the night as well, then during your Friday/Saturday with them drop into conversation about your Sunday plans.
"Friday we're doing....., Saturday we're doing ......., Sunday, you're buggering off home"

There job done!

(I never was subtle)
true, I've still got the footprint on my bum from when I overstayed five minutes at B00's (and that was just in the Co-op).

I'm not sure just what you've told them so far, but Athley's formulation sounds sensible.
Just say; we hope you can stay Saturday night too.
Ask 'will you be able to stay Saturday?'. I think that makes it clearer that you want the answer to be yes.
