Ebay - Sending to Portugal

I’m selling my old mobile on ebay. It ends Friday evening and has got a fair few watchers so far with the bidding currently at about £30. Other similar phones have gone for about £50. So far so good.

I’ve got a message from someone in Portugal asking if I would send it there and how much postage would be. What do you experienced ebayers think? I don’t want to get scammed so how should I ensure that everything goes smoothly. Can you get proof of delivery internationally if you use the post office? Will this keep ebay happy if the buyer claims non-receipt?

Get a quote from the Post Office re: registered postage to Portugal and explain the costs to the potential buyer, then they can't claim non-receipt.

They'll doubtless pay with PayPal anyway so you won't be scammed.

i have had lots of probs with overseas mail and people saying they haven't received stuff.

i have ticked UK bidders only now.

Thanks both. Cath, that's what I'm wary of. Even if they pay by paypal, ebay will find in their favour and refund them if they claim non-receipt unless you have cast-iron proof of postage.

There seems to be enough interest in the UK so I think I'll tell them I'm not interested.

same here, even though i have blocked non uk bidders and put UK ship only i have lost count of how many times 'how much to ship to etc' messages i get.
Its just to much hassle, i had some clown from Greece wanted me to arrange shipping not charge VAT etc.etc all for £20.00 !! no was the answer..

Quote them a high postage fee, usually that's enough to put them off from bidding.
