Yes I know, but it's not true to say that "the team that beats the holders wins the cup". Because on at least one occasion two teams did so.
I know you aren't necessarily touting it as a reason to back Australia, but there are only a very few teams capable realistically of winning the RWC anyway, and all perfectly capable of beating each other so perhaps the fact that the holders have always lost to the eventual winners is not so surprising.
