ntkrnlpa.exe is corrupt

How do I fix the above problem? Can I re-install Windows 7 without losing all of my files and programs? I have the master discs for 7 and Office but I REALLY don't want to go down that road and do a complete installation. Can anyone help,please?

Try doing a Windows 7 repair.

As your computer starts up press F8 (try it a few times) and Windows should go into safe mode.

Here you have a number of options one of which is repair.

This will try and replace any faulty files with "good" copies

It will not touch your personal files (but best to back them up any way)

Thanks for that VHG but the system just goes into a loop and I can't get in to do a backup? Looks like it's going to be a full installation of Windows 7.

Well,it was a full new installation of Windows 7 and I'm really pleased that Windows saves a folder called "Windows.old" on the main drive . At least I'm back into my system and I'm able to start again. I've done a 'backup' in the form of an image onto my external drive and my main drive is now down to 29Gb from 150Gb. I shall make an 'image' every week now and make sure I'm protected and not downloading any old rubbish. A lesson learned the hard way!
