In the Northern Echo today an old lady in Newcastle put her hand out to stop a child running onto the road and a man in his twenties walked over and punched her in the eye. The old lady was 79 years old. I truly do not know where this generation is leading us.

What was an unrelated 'lady' putting her hands on a child for anyway. I always ignore any situations like this.

In the past it would have been a good samaritan coming to the rescue. These days though it is not worth participating in any form of helping out.

Had I seen the old women getting a kick in I would have walked past. You only have to read examples on here where people have stepped in and found themselves arrested or charged with a multitude of crimes simply for attempting to help out. It is not worth it. What if it had been a man stopping the child from going into the road, no doubt he would be up for assault on a child after claims from the dozy parents.
the story makes it sound like shes a kindly hero who was only trying to save the child from being harmed...however when the harm is actually her herself and her scooter because she was either going too fast to stop or simply didnt want to its a rather different story...

(not sure where the OP got the idea she was stopping the child running into the road...kneejerk reaction maybe?)

It was the way the Northern Echo reported it Joko, that is why I thanked the others for the Chronicle piece. As you say puts a whole new light on the story( no scooter was mentioned in the article I read.)
so now it's the old lady's fault she got a punch in the face, as to not stopping to help someone in distress well that just plain wrong.
if it had been your mother, grandmother would you still feel the same, sorry i don't get the hard hearted attitude at all. whatever the woman did, she didn't deserve this.
No ones saying she did em, if you read back our replies we've all said it wasn't acceptable what he did. What we're quibbling is how the situation arose, no the outcome.
em...try to read the posts and understand...no-one is saying anything of the sort..
