For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.No, it can only be done through an authorised body - and you have to fill in the form and take it to your organisation's authorised signatory along with the evidence of who you are - birth cert, driving licence, passport, etc. Only original signatures are accepted on the application forms, and once the report is completed, the original report is sent to whichever organisation applied for it, with a copy to you.
Applying for a Criminal Record Check - Can this be done online?
The answer is most certainly YES and this has been available for a couple of years already.
There are 3 levels of UK criminal record check. Individuals can apply on-line for Basic Disclosures (http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/apply/) themselves, or agencies/employers/umbrella bodies can do it on your behalf. These only reveal "unspent" convictions though.
Employers can also apply online for Standard and Enhanced Disclosures. They can integrate directly with the CRB if they meet the 3000 applications per year requirement to have online access, or can use 3rd parties like Atlantic Data, Capita, or CareCheck to also apply online. Using this method you can be invited by an agency or employer to complete your Standard or Enhanced application online (i.e. http://www.ebulk-disc....uk/files/index.php). You would get a copy sent to your home address and the employer sees the results online, or gets a hard copy of the Disclosure in the post if it contains any criminal information.
If you need a standard or enhanced disclosure, you cannot request this level of criminal record check as an individual though. So it all depends on what you want and what you need it for.
