Why do women like white wine and men red?

I keep being contrary tonight (what with liking Clarkson), but I much prefer red wine to white. Give me a mad, tanniney Rioja any day of the week. (I'm a woman, by the way. Just thought I'd better mention that...).

In pubs, wines tend to be a bit grim, so tend to get mixed with lemo or soda. White wine probably tastes better mixed than red (normally white is medium in pubs) so more women drink white than red? I dunno, just clutching at straws.

my boyfriend likes white wine, as does my dad, and a lot of men in the pub my partner used to work in liked white wine, and i know plenty of women who like red

I used to always only drink white wine as I found that red wines gave me a headache, however I discovered I had been drinking the 'wrong wines' and have since discovered fantastic red wines and very rarely drink white now, I do enjoy a glass or two of a good and nicely chilled Chablis still though. I find many women still say they don't drink red wine as it gives them a headache, I soon enlighten them though.

I like both, but I mailny drink white, as red stains my lips, and you can't get it off the next morning!

Always found white wine too acidic. Even expensive ones! Much prefer red.

Not a phenomenon I've come across - all the wine-drinkers I know, of whatever sex or proclivity, like GOOD wines, right for the time/place/food/company, regardless of colour.

i much prefer the taste of white wine to red and red wine gives me the most horrific hangover the next day where as white doesnt.

To give a direct answer to the question, from my experience only, is because I cant handle red wine! lol
