Two sets of neighbours across the road have pulled their hedges out and are now having a reasonably sized bonfire - right outside their houses. It's about three foot from the front wall of one of the houses and about four foot from three parked cars. Surely this is not a good plan?

Having a bonfire during the day is not a good idea, although not against any laws.

We have allotments at the back of my home and sometimes, they light bonfires during the day - on one occasion my washing was engulfed in smoke - I got my step ladders out, and started shouting over the fence, they took no notice and just smirked at me. So I went and got my hosepipe and soaked the bonfire and them - the smirk soon went from their faces (:o)) sorted.
Ah, but the same link I gave says it's an offence if smoke drifts over the public highway and if it does call the police!!

I don't mind them having a bonfire, just don't want the street full of fire engines at tea time - the kids will be too excited to eat their food.
Sher....you have some strange neigbours..
Question Author
It's a small village Ummmm, think most of them are related to each other.
Lol.....and damage yet?
Question Author
No damage yet - all a bit disappointing.
Question Author
Very peculiar - only one bloke left tending the fire, and he's sitting in a deck chair with a hard hat on!
Question Author
Bloody thing is still going - if I'd known it was going to still be going I would have chucked some jacket potatoes on it.
Question Author
Damn thing is still burning away - told you it was a reasonable size.
That's some bonfire they've got going! Will it be safe to go to bed?
Question Author
It's a lot smaller than it was (not surprisingly), they don't seem to be bothered (even the bloke in the hard hat has given up now). Can understand why they started it of so early now.
Thing is, will it still be burning on 5th Nov?
I would be taping up my windows now, those cars are gonna blow!
Question Author
They actually turned one round a bit so they could sit in it to watch the fire (nicely placing it even nearer to the fire).
