Where do blackbirds disappear to in the summer?

They don't disappear anywhere. They remain here in the UK. I presume you are in the UK.

I think the majority of them are in my garden!!

They are all baked in a pie.
But beware when the pie is opened !

after they have finished nesting for the year they start moulting so they will be hiding in the bushes until they have their new feathers

My resident blackbird looks very scruffy at the moment. Giving him extra mealworms to see him through..

My blackbirds have just reappeared so it'll be back to spending a fortune on raisins and mealworms. I usually end up wth at least six over the winter. :o)

They've remained in my garden this summer, looking after their youngsters. (Two broods).

Someone told me that UK Blackbirds move further down the country in the Winter and a new batch of birds from the Scandinavian countries come over and repopulate our gardens. Can this be true? If it is, it means that we'll be feeding up a new batch of birds this winter and our well fed flock will be on their hols in Cornwall.

I do get blackbirds in my garden, but the starlings and collar doves seem to
be in the majority. Recently also had three grey squirrels. I'd love to see a
red one. Haven't seen a red squirrel since I was a child.

Come to the Isle of Wight as we only have red squirrels here and no greys! I'm very lucky as I can see them on the bird feeder from my kitchen window.

Do you know there are red squirrels at Formby in Lancashire ?

Ooh I wonder where the nearest place to see them from here is (Hove). Maybe Brownsea Island, IOW, or New Forest? Last time I saw one was in the NF when I was a slip of a girl. Pretty little creatures.

I also saw a couple in Hampshire once in someone's garden, but at Formby there is a reserve for them and you can buy food and watch them eat. It's lovely to see them so natural and happy.

As to the blackbird thread, I can't wait for mine to come back (a female) I miss her. Still waiting. She isn't in the least afraid of me and swoops down when I am outside !
