It seems both programmes use similar methods of parenting (rewarding gold stars/tickers, positive encouragement and a time out seat) mere co-incidence or based on one model child-psychological method?

well if both programmes are using it there must be something in it! ive thought no further than that to be honest. i do watch supernanny religiously though i dont watch little angels very often. Ive used the naughty chair with my daughter and its worked ok but shes not taken any interest in the stickers! I think positive encouragement is the best thing of all, though its something that really ought to be common sense in all parents, even though we dont always use it when we should

There both from one type of thinking in the way of managing childrens behaviour, im currently writing a essay in relation to this (im actually on here to get away from riting the essay) the book im reading says that this system of reward and punishment is not a good way because once the reward is removed then the childs behaviour can often slip and also we are teaching children to do thins to please us, ie if we say "well done, i'm realy pleased with that picture, i think its realy nice" we are teaching them to please others rather then the reason for them wanting to do things coming from inside. I could go on longer about this but i wont bore everyone even more.
