chuckFickens thanks - i know it sounds daft but it's due to a move around of bits and pieces - so there is no way a dongle /usb will do it ?
So I have to open up the back of PC and fit the PCI adapter to get wireless?
Here's a bunch of Belkins ... any will do the job. 802.11g is widely used .. 11n is latest standard .. so get one with this .. it's likely to be faster.
Keep the dongle out in free space on a lead to get good signal if you can .. or buy the fancy stand one.

You plug one in near your router and connect your router to it via cable.
You plug the second one near your pc and connect your pc to it. 2 ethernet cables are included.
thanks hc4361- don't need anything that sophisticated as long as the USB dongle picks up my internet connection (and is def not a mobile tariff one) that's all i need
It depends what you want to do with the wireless connection. If it's mainly internet then really it'll be fine. Yeah sure, Powerline and (obviously) a physical wire are both faster but until 50-100Mb net connections become the norm, existing wifi technology is more than sufficient in terms of throughput.
