fell off my bike this morning and broke my wrist. in a plaster cast for the first time in my life at 35! it ruddy hurts and i've just found out that work (my clinical post) won't let me use annual leave to cover the next 6 weeks (i only do 15 hrs a week) so i may be back to formal sickness monitoring (after spending the last 14 months behaving myself and coming off a stage 2 and narrowly avoiding getting fired - i had a depressive episode and developed severe arthritis which took some sorting out!).
my teaching post (3 days a week) are cool about it and will let me carry on teaching with a plaster cast, which is quite nice of them. i'm freaking out and really worried i'll lose my job and just can't stop crying at the moment. i just can't believe a moment of ...well, not even stupidity (my tyre just wouldn't mount a lowered kerb) has the possibilty of messing my life up. am so upset...x :[

ok - stiff drink time me thinks.
teaching job looks secure - the largesse of your income I presume. so a quick drink to them!
Breathe.
The clinical post - (i) a doc's note I presume you have - what can you do (ii) see your manager, discuss it calmly through to what you can perform and areas that you may need assistance. Think it through over the recovery period as you may be able to do more as the healing progresses.
Agree a working plan, agree some informal review meetings.
(iii) Now have that next draught of your drink and breathe again.
Get a good nights sleep and review what you have thought about tonight. If ok with it go for it

Ouch, ouch and triple ouch. Ouch for the wrist, ouch for the lack of sick pay (really?) and triple ouch for your dignity!
((((Hugs )))) to you and I'm sure you'll feel a little better in a few days when you start to get over the shock . Its the shock that's making you cry, take it easy and rest up until it subsides.
