Badly Bruised Little Toe!!

A few weeks ago I bashed my little toe with a supermarket trolley (I was wearing flip-flops). All seemed to be OK although the toe nail went black and seemed about to fall off, rather than the bruise 'grow up nail' as it were. Then this week I did exactly the same thing! Blimey did I swear - it was agony! This time the toe looked like a fat chipolata and the base of the toe turned purple!! Now, 3 days later, the bruise is spreading from the base of my toe to the top of my foot. Is this normal? By the way, it doesn't hurt any more - just a bit sore.

Are you sure it's not broken ??
mayennaise, I broke my little toe a few years back when I kicked the bath - damned painful. I did nothing with it - there's not much you can do with it - I didn't realise I had fractured the little bone at the time. Have you got a minor injuries unit near you? It would be worth popping in tomorrow.
oh Jeeze, we're not into the dreaded toenail dropping off territory again are we?
I'll show you my finger if you like B00, the nail took 6 months to grow out, it's lovely now.
I've broken a little toe, too.

I didn't go to casualty until, like maye's, the purple bruising started to spread.

The x-ray was horrid ... a spiral fracture, with the front of the bone broken off.

But it looked worse than it felt.

All they did was taped it to my next toe, and sent me home.

I lost me finger nail as well a few years ago - I trapped the top of my index finger in a safe door - fractured me finger - had to wait months for half the finger nail to drop off! It flapped in the breeze for ages and caught on absolutely everything!
oh ewww! you're all gross- im going, before I hurl.

Rotten buggers!

PS
Hope your toe gets better.
I kept trimming mine down, then used judicious sticking plasters until it fell off... I shut my index finger in the front door the other day - not much obvious bruise, but I can only assume I bruised down to the bone, one point of it is still very painful if I poke it. (I know, don't poke it...)
"It flapped in the breeze for ages" ... !

I think I feel a bit queasy.

Mr Mayo seems to think it might be broken as well - but if all the hospital will do is tape it up I might as well let it heal on its own. Hobnail boots me thinks when I next venture to the supermarket!
It might be complete balls but I have heard that most people will brake their little toes several times.

I'm sure I've done both of mine at least once. They look broken and ugly. Once when playing with my 3 year old nephew he suddenly stopped and said "Auntie ..., what's wrong with your toes?" When a toddler notices, that's bad!
As a man that sees toe nails on a daily basis it is not anything to worry about but it can take 6 months to become normal and it may fall away as the new one grows under
Ouch! I trapped the end of one of my little fingers in a door hinge when I was little (trying to be good and shut the door I think!), it took the whole top off. I remember going to hospital for an operation to remove a tumour thing that then grew on it on Christmas Eve and getting a little present from a Santa in a wheelchair. It's still shorter than the other one but the nail grew back and grows faster than any other nail and is rock hard.

My dad cut his little finger (same one as me) off with a hedge strimmer so only has a little stump now and mum very badly damaged some of hers falling off a chair while trying to hoover the top of a wardrobe. I keep warning my brother he's next!

Bruising can be evil, I fell off a chair which wasn't where I thought it was last NYE (errr yeah...) and damaged my ankle and it's still bruised in places now!

Sorry Boo...
Little toes often come in for a bashing. I banged mine quite badly once and when I looked at it, it was sticking out at a funny angle. I just pushed it back! All you can do is as some say on here, tape it to the next toe! My big toe nail came off once after I'd banged it, it was horrible. I remember having to pull it off eventually, but a nice new one grew back afterwards! (Sorry BOO!).
