How to play a bass?

Hi, i have just got myself a bass, i have been playing guitar for 2 years and want to play my bass with my fingers but what fingers go with what strings? Or is it just any finger for any string? I'm really confussed so any help would be great!

Right Hand: use your first 2 fingers - index and the one next to it, usually alternately when playing faster, but the rule of thumb (don't use your thumb unless slapping) is to do whatever feels best and is comfortable.



Left Hand: whatever is comfortable, and depending on where your fingers will be going next.

Why not try using a heavy gauge plectrum ,I seem to get by ok ,good luck!

yeah, use a heavy pick.


and learn your scales (including blues scales)


and play along to your fave music


and find some people to play with


no other instrument i've ever played gives me the same feeling as bass guitar
