I've spent 500 on my daughter so far and still have to gte her main present but when i told my friend she thought it was over the top saying she only spends 150 each on her children. When me and my brother was younger we got alot of presents at xmas so its what i've done with my daughter, although thats the only time she will get new toys except for the odd bits throughout the year

It is up to you how much you spend but i would have spent around £150 and stuck the rest in a fund or account for her further education. Ask yourself which would confer the most lasting benefit.... being lavished with toys that will end up broken or shoved in a cupboard somewhere, or having the opportunity to go to University and build a fantastic future?
she is getting a break, cos am off to cambodia---to pull
Depends on a) budget and B) if I see something person would really love
Try to do everything for bout £200 as money tight...

I used to make boozy truffles for presents one year I bought gifts instead everyone said they preferred the sweets so for a total ingredients cost of around £50 I can make enough for about twenty five gifts of assorted sizes
And for older rels and friends I add home made shortbread, brownies, or a small christmas cake and maybe a half bottle of port...
Not much anymore. Just my kids, and they get cash. I don't buy OH anything...and vice versa.

I got fed up of it all....My Christmas consists of giving the kids presents and making a xmas dinner. I don't even put up a tree.
nothing
I spend what I can afford and nothing more. I wouldn't make myself broke over christmas but I do like to give presents to family and man hostage, I just don't like to break the bank doing it. Probably sounds stingey but as far as I'm concerned the rent and the bills (including food) get dealt with first and then I see what I have to play with.

Nothing worse than getting to 01st January and realising you're going to be skint the whole month!
I hate Christmas anyway. As far as I am concerned it is BAH - HUMBUG.
Yes - I know I am an old misery.
I don't think it's stingey. It's practical.

I just hate the commercialism of it and the pressure it puts on parents. I went along with it when the kids were small but they're teenagers now. Thank goodness...
I like christmas for kids, they get more out of it. I like to give presents, I really do like seeing people pleased with something I gave them. And I like to eat and drink. The rest of the madness can bog off and I'm not interested in any of it until December.

Although this year I'm quite excited to get a christmas tree. I have never had my own christmas tree... simple things and all that! :-/
I prefer hallowe'en. I like to see the little ones dressed up and their little faces all glowing just to receive packets of sweeties, lollipops and packets of crisps. The pleasure is immediate - and most of is mine.
spend whatever you fee like: different families do things different ways, but big spending on Christmas and much less on birthdays is one common way. The number of kids and their ages may play a part (and so will your income), but enjoying yourselves is most important.
Have bought Mrs Booldawg a camera for just over 100 - but as its her bday on 4th Jan thats combined ;-) Limit it to 50 pound each for the kids, and usually give niece/nephew 20 quid vouchers. Have agreed with sister just to buy for kids as it does get ridiculously expensive.
I think it's perfectly fine to spend whatever you see fit on whoever you like- just because someone has a high value present certainly does not mean they are spoiled. I bought my daughter whose 13 a Sony DSLR A900 plus lenses, which cost a fair bit but she's not spoiled just has a serious interest in photography. The other kids varied between £150 and £1000, I got them something which I believed they would like not which all cost the same amount- in the past it's also depended on how much money i've had at any given time- sometimes they've had presents that cost a fiver or second hand ones. Anything is fine, just cut your cloth and enjoy Christmas.
We set a budget each year according to our circumstances , in our family that way no one gets in debt or embarassed by buying a small pressie and getting a hugh one.
My 14 year old son is getting a £600 computer this year, usually he only gets about £150 spent on him though.
My grown up daughters get £50 each and their children (4 in total) get about the same.
