Just back from dentist. Tooth found to be cracked so existing filling drilled out and cracked bit removed. Temporary filling now in place. Go back in 3 weeks for permanent fix. Cost of this second filling estimated to be £88. How does that price sound?

I'm to have two white fillings replaced in a couple of weeks and will have the checkup fee and a brisk run round with the scale/polish person for about £64.00 if it helps for a comparison.
very expensive the wife had two filled for £66 for one and £70 for the other as a private dentist
I guess it depends on the size of the filling and the material used, etc. etc. etc. I'd say it was in the right ball-park.

Thanks for all these replies. Because of the crack a corner of the tooth has now gone so the new filling will have to replicate the outer surface of part of the tooth. This probably makes it a little more involved. Also we are talking central Edinburgh prices here which won't help.
Oh, Edinburgh. You'll have had your teeth? :)
That sounds extraordinarily cheap to me, scotman, I'd bite their arm off.
Nice one Douglas :)
