what should u do when someone gets an electric shock.

Turn off the power immediately and if concious and seemingly okay, still get them to a doctor/hospital. A medic once told me of a man who had a shock in a finger and it travelled up his arm and out of his elbow. He thought nothing of it for a few days until pus started oozing from a small hole at the elbow. He lost his arm as it went gangrene internally.

If the victim is not breathing administer usual resucitation techniques, if unconsious lie them in the recovery position. In either case get professional medical help to them as soon as possible.

Above all DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER. Ensure the power is off before touching the victim.

As has been stated before isolate the supply ( turn it off), then use an insulating medium (rubber gloves, wooden stick) to move the casualty away from the source of electricity. Once you are sure that there is no way the casualty is touching the source check for breathing and a pulse. If none present apply CPR.

Always get the casualty to hospital, as an electric shock can cause untold damage to the internal organs whilst outwardly the person looks normal.

One last thing if the casualy has come into contact with high voltage (>1000v) then do not approach if there is any chance they are still connected. At voltages above 1000v there is the possibility that the electricity can 'jump' (arc over) to you rendering you a second casualty. NEVER enter an Electricity Substation to try to save someone, it would be rare that they will ahve survived and until the electricity is switched out YOU WILL BECOME A CASUALTY TOO.
