Re-chargable Batteries

If you leave a re-chargable device, mobile phone/mp3 player etc, connected to the charger, but unpowered, will the battery drain down?

Hi,  Generally the answer is yes because many devices will use some power for the memory etc... and anyway most devices are not switched off but in a standby mode of some kind watching the keyboard for you to press a power button or whatever to "wake it up"

Bruce do you mean if the charger is switched off but connected and the Phone/MP3 etc which is still switched on or the device is switched off and the charger is switched on?

qapmoc answer is nearly correct but is irrespective of wether the said device is still connected to a charger or not.  It really depends on the circuitry in the charger.  If its a good quality charger then no but I have come accross them that do.

Jay70  Thankyou!  The device is switched off, the charger is switched off, but is connected to device and mains!

my phone charges even when the phone is switched off - and its an old nokia.

the charger has no individual switch though - if its plugged in, its on.

I can tell because a little recharge symbol appears on the screen

All batteries will self discharge over time due to their construction, so yes expect it to drain if the charger is not powered up.
