internet speed

Does anyone know how I can check the speed of my adsl please? I have a french computer with orange livebox. When I had a modem connected, I could see the speed just by touching the icon with the mouse.
I have just upped the speed on a contract and want to know if it's working.

As a matter of interest I tried my suggestion and Degger's one after the other on my connection and the results were:

Broadband Speedchecker Download 5.95 Upload 0.37
Speedtest Download 5.96 Upload 0.37

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised they were the same!

Just tried it myself....Download 2.29 Upload 0.36.......Could do with a bit of improvement methinks!
