Harvest Celebratios

I went to a harvest celebration in a tiny country church tonight and it was really uplifting. There was a lovely tea afterwards, everything home baked! With the bad weather some people couldn't make it so there was lots of leftover food. It was then announced that everyone who wished to could take a plate, fill it up with any goodies they wanted and take it home.
Such a nice ending to a lovely evening. Certainly made me think about node good God is to us all.

Harvest Festivals are lovely aren't they spotit - we had ours a few weeks ago, gave money in the collection for the famine in Africa. It really makes you realise how fortunate we are in this country, having enough food every day, it makes me count my blessings, we have such a lot to be thankful for.....

Thanks everyone. Beunchico, they actually gave us the paper plates, tinfoil to cover them and a bag to carry it in! Couldn't get on the site you mentioned, will try it tomorrow. I am in Northern Ireland and rain hasn't stopped all day and it is also blowing a huge gale. Mind you, I am enjoying lying in bed listening to beating on my window! Think I should get up and
look for candles in case of power cut but too cosy now!
I gave God the credit, Khandro, because without his promise that 'seedtime and harvest will never cease' we wouldn't have the ample supply of food and good things which we enjoy.

I work as a cook for a local homeless charity. Much of the food staples that keep us going through the year come from festivals such as yours. Without it,we'd not be able to provide the daily meals we do,nor the emergency packs we provide for the needy. Money and funding is very thin on the ground lately...all these contributions are gratefully accepted.

I love Autumn flower festivals as well something about the mellow colours in old churches... Pasta...I've noticed a local charity has a bin in sainsburys now beside the cat sanctuary ones asking people to spare a tin or two for the homeless... Nothing in it the cat ones were nearly full... of course it might have just been emptied. It would be good if there were collection points in town centres for people to bring tins of food that were near their use by when they sort their cupboards I found 4 packs of pasta in the back of my cupboard last time I tidied it....no chance of using it all up

Ooh, samhain looks jolly. Big bonfires, and everything.

Like halloween with feasting for grownups... usually fast during the day so I really enjoy the evening... mulled wine or mulled mead is essential

It's the sort of thing they'd do in Lewes (where they burn the Pope, and so on).

I wonder if I could find a local samhain festival.

These things you do all sound so much fun, rowan. I love it.

Pagans have a religious duty to enjoy the world and its gifts... value and treasure the grape and the grain and those little yeast things that improve them so much... Honour the animals who die to feed us...care for them well while they are alive... and try to live well with the earth and the rest of the human race... I don't really worship the goddess but I think its a useful way of focussing thoughts on the right things to do...

Yule done properly is even more about eating, drinking and making merry as after yule the days get longer

I love Christmas time bvut don't think many people actually remember that we are celebrating the birth of Christ, without whom we are empty.
