I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it. Can anyone lead me in the right direction to get a free downloadable version of word?

Need it for sons homework...

Make sure you save your work in the .doc format and it will be totally compatible with Office Word
I agree with Trimeresurus, albeit I use open office and like hc4361 save your work in the .doc format.

http://www.abisource.com/download/ is the down load for Abiword which is a good open source word processor and very light on resources. Open Office is superb if you want the whole bag of tricks
You get the option of associating it with doc. when setting up.
There is nothing quite like having MS Office suite.
Use this if you need to access an office app quickly.

I use Google Docs all the time, but it is not compatible with Office Word, which is a very important factor for a lot of people.

If you have a person in full time education you can get a full version of MS Office professional here (legally) for about £38 (normally a few hundred pounds)

libreoffice , is far better than openoffice for opening .doc and other MS Office documents correctly
