So what your saying is that leather doesnt just come from a cow. Its just that I had a wee discussion in the pub about leather and I was made to be the dafty because I said you get different kinds of leather, some can be goatskin etc.

I can assure you that leather comes from all sorts of animals. For my sins I used to sell 'proper' handbags in John Lewis and actually attended a tannery as part of my training. Smelly, but fascinating! There were skins from loads of different animals including goats, lambs and ostriches as well as the dear old cow. Most people generally mean cowskin when they refer to leather, but as Clanad rightly says - it ain't necessarily so!
