blocking unwanted phone calls

Is there any way that i can stop getting unwanted telesales phone calls without costing me money, they are starting to get on my nerves thanks for any help...

Have you registered with TPS, that will stop a lot of it. http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

telephone and mailing preference service is free to join, but only applies to UK based callers/mailers! you can block calls from withheld numbers and som phones can be programmed to play a different ring when the number is international!

It seems that i am already registered with tps but it does not seem to be helping, i am still getting a lot of telesales phone calls

If they are ringing from outside the UK there is little you can do about it, if not tell the sales people you are registered with the TPS and that you will report them, it normally works especially if you ask for their address before you tell them.

If you have one of those telephones that shows the number and you don't recognise it just ignore it - that's what I do, if it happens to be something important whoever it is will leave a message, and you can contact them if you like, I get a lot of calls which say International which I also ignore - those are usully con men from abroad. Those calls which get through if you aswer them, inform them that you are on the TPS list and ask them to remove them from their call list, they are obliged to do this.

Yes that is exactly what i do but it is getting really annoying when when the same numbers come up some times 5 or 6 times every half hour, and there is no way to turn my phone to silent.

Thanks venator, i try amazon, it is the last couple of weeks that has been the worst for these calls, yesterday was really bad, well see what the day brings....

I had that problem so when I answered the phone I would say Asda superstore can I have your order please out loud and the phone just went dead I found you need something to get your number out there system and that was the only way we manage it

I have a lot of fun with these fools. I either keep them interested at their cost seeming interested and then hang up talling them where to go or I play a loud noise down the phone. I hardly get any now.
