because they don't trust footie fans not to behave like violent morons... sounds harsh but history has shown the tribal culture in football is enough of a problem without adding alcohol to the mix... I can't think of another sport where fans have to be segregated... go to rugby drink pints with your mates and sit next to a crowd of the opposition supporters... no prob...

Thanks. But thats just typical a few mindless idiots ruin it for genuine supporters who like a pint or two!
I have had great times at cricket matches and rugby games hot day in june friend and I england supporters in a crowd of welsh fans at Twickers when we beat them 50-3... they were such fun despite losing and there were some french fans in the mix just there for the sport...and when we played italy... even more fun so sad football fans can't behave they lose so much,,, having to be herded like cattle because of the actions of small groups of idiots
dont liverpool & everton fans normally sit together in the derbies
..or is it a case of sponsorship?
Is it just for European games?

You can buy beer and wine at our stadium.
Perhaps in the bar or restaurant JJ - but you cant sit and watch the game and drink alcohol - it's not allowed.

Yeah its just european games ( for joggerjane ). I have a few everton friends and they tell me there is still hatred and trouble between fans, but some do sit together. ( for piggynose ).
It is aginst the law to consume alcohol in view of the match, so you can drink it in the concourse areas, but not in the seating/standing areas.
You can drink at any premiership, FA cup, league cup, JPT game, You can drink at Wembley during internationals so Rowans point is wrong and lets not forget in rugby its only the players who drink and let thier country down.

I think as Haggis says its to do with sponsership. Amstel spend loads, however you are not allowed to drink in view of the pitch??

They also won't allow the screens on during European games.
