Is it possible to get 'done' going towards a gatso speed camera, when the camera is facing you on the other side of the road? if not whats the purpose of there being lines on both sides of the road?

Thanks,Tom.

The answer is No, it is not possible to get done by a Gatso when the camera is on the other side of the road - they only take pictures of you from behind. If there are lines on your side of the road it is only because there has been a camera on your side of the road at one time or another. On some roads you will find that they occasionally rotate a camera, from one side to the other, rather than having cameras on both sides.
Also they pick up drivers who are on the wrong side of the road speeding to over take someone.

no they don't loosehead. The camera isn't supposed to flash in your face. that would be unsafe.

The old style Gatso cameras face the rear of the car and have an actual film camera in them.  These have the large ruler markings on the road and can be identified by the square lense in the bottom corner of the unit's front face.

The newer Gatso Truvelo face the front of the car and have a digital camera in them.  These generally have three narrow white lines painted close to each other going across the lane, although some still have the ruler markings.  They have the two round lenses near the centre of the unit's front face.

Usually there are lines on both sides of the road because the camera can be turned round (especially if the camera is in the central reservation of a divided road).

Sometimes, when the camera is on the side of the road lines are painted in both lanes just to scare the opposite flowing traffic.

Yes they do jimmer, I'm talking about when they are going away from the camera. but on th wrong side of the road. If you think for a nano second you will not be blinded by your pedantry.

The Gatso will get you whether you're travelling towards it or away from it. It is an expensive urban myth! if there are no lines on your side of the road it is unlikely you will be prosecuted as these are used to varify the speed you are travelling. Where I live there are normally lines on both sides and the cameras have only ever been on the one side. Some of my friends have found this out to their cost.
