Arayse. Shakespeare used that spelling. 'Rays' is a poetic word for 'looks' according to Chambers,

Quizmonster is right with "arayse" but the poet is not Housman. It's the Irish poet George William Russell (1867-1935) who always used the pseudonym AE.

And while we're on this crossword, can anyone tell me why "Staff Officer about to fly, without wings, in shock?" leads to "stonked"?
