Last Thursday I renewed my car licence via Internet with DVLC, and was informed it would arrive within 5 day`s, but it hasn`t. Can I be fined for not displaying an up to date one even though it`s paid for?

You can legally have a car on the road tomorrow (the 5th of the month) without displaying a tax disc which was applied for prior to the start of the month, but not on Sunday (the 6th):

Chris is of course correct but in reality they will know if you are taxed via the plate so you'll probably be fine. It would take jobsworth copper of the year to nick you for not displaying which is minor anyway.

Local Authority Wardens also have the power to ticket un-taxed (and they do not have access to the DVLA to determine if a tax-disc has been paid for and is on its way to you) cars parked in 'public places'......

Jobsworth maybe Kayless but it will happen nonetheless. Failure to display a valid licence resulted in a £60.00 fine despite letters of explanation to those in charge of keeping the streets safe for all of us.
The worst part of the whole thing though was that the disc clearly shows the word "disabled" and the amount due as zero.
