64mb sdram or 256mb sdram

just having pulled some memory from my sons old board it has on it 8 banks with extram 8m84z-133 which shows as 256 mb on system info when in my machine.is this correct ( if you can tell by the info) as i don't want to rip anyone off on e-bay.

reason i ask is total ram in the pc when in use was 768 mb and the other ram which was with it says 256mb on it so this should be a 512 which is what i remember it as unless my system is reading it wrong.

The chips are often marked with Megabits, shortened to Mb, while the system will prefer to them in MegaBytes, shorted to MB.
There are eight bits to a Byte, so it could be 512 Mb, marked as 8 * 8 MB.
