Morning Selfridge81, I've endured the same symptoms on and off for decades now. There seem to be triggers like rice, dry chicken and beef. One of the more annoying things is that weeks can pass between episodes with no obvious trigger when it does.
I've had endoscopies done, biopsy taken, none of which have shown anything unusual or sinister but still the events persist, although thankfully less often than in the past. The medics can offer no explanation but have me on 20mg Omeprazole every morning and it does seem to help most of the time.
With no absolute cure I've found that not eating late at night, taking plenty of water, relaxation exercises and sleeping on my side all help.
One other symptom I have is that the salivary glands seem to go into overdrive starting off watery then becoming thick, like what happens during sport or exercise. The end result is, I'm afraid, a visit to the smallest room to eject the problematic matter. After that's been done everything returns to normal.
I'd certainly have a visit to the doc to have stuff ruled out but repeat that I've had the internals and nothing bad showed so don't go fearing the worst (as we tend to do).
I wish you both well, good luck.
