Longest book title

One of my favourite books is called "And to my nephew Albert, I leave the Island what I won off Fatty Hagan in a poker game.." Has anyone read it? It's very funny. Does anyone else know any other books with long titles?

One of my favourite books growing up was called "Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day."  Not as long as yours, but a long one, nonetheless!!

How about Paul Jennings's children book, catchily titled "How Hedley Hopkins Did A Dare, Robbed A Grave, Made A New Friend Who Might Not Really Have Been There At All And While He Was At It Committed A Terrible Sin Which Everyone Was Doing Even Though He Didn't Know It".

Well, there's Daniel Defoe's magnum opus, The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner: who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pirates, Written by Himself. No wonder everyone just calls it Robinson Crusoe.

I'd like to submit, "The Persecution and Assassination of Marat as performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton under the direction of the Marquis de Sade."

It's a play by the German author Peter Weiss, performed by the RSC in 1964, directed by Peter Brook with Patrick McGee as de Sade. A drama spoken in verse, it's become a classic of it's genre and a cornerstone of Artaud's 'Theatre of Cruelty' movement. I saw it in Chicago 4 years ago - excellent stuff, but if you're looking for laughs I'd probably stick with Albert and Fatty Hagan!

And to my nephew......what a great book! Read it years ago, even managed to get some of non-reading family to read it.

The image that most stays in my mind is the ferocious guard dog licking off the tomato ketchup.

Solarjunkie, thank goodness someone else has read it, I've never found anyone who has! I always thought it would have made a great film, but only if it had been made years ago. I still laugh out loud when I read it.

Yes, I've read it.  Years ago, while I was still living in England.  Must be 35-40 years ago!   And, yes, it's very funny; must be to have remained a happy memory all this time.  Coincidence is I thought about the book this morning and couldn't remember the title past "and to my nephew..." so went on line to search--and up popped this site.  Thought I'd request the book from the local library to re-read it.

It's not just a very funny book, it's now a very valuable book. Sadly when I read my copy years ago, I passed it on to a friend and so lost track ot it. A decent copy is worth over �200 today.

Bosquoy - Seriously?? The copy I have is a tiny bit tatty at the edge of the dust jacket, but it is a first edition, do you think it would be worth something?
